MM GLOSSARY
Abstinence (Abs): Refraining completely from drinking alcoholic beverages.
Abstar: MM sponsored online drink tracker
Alcohol Free (AF): Containing no alcohol.
Blue Day: Reference to MM’s Abstar drink counter meaning a day in which the participant stayed within moderate drinking limits. (The numbers are displayed in blue.)
By the Book (BTB): Adhering to the Moderation Management limits of alcohol intake. (See Appendix A-Steps of Change).
F’abs: Abstaining from alcohol for four days in a week.
Gold Day: Reference to the Abstar drink counter meaning the participant abstained but also took another positive action toward health and long-term change.
Green Day: Reference to the Abstar drink counter meaning a day in which the participant abstained contentedly. (The numbers are displayed in green.)
MM Forum: Private online message board community for MM members.
High Five: Abstaining from alcohol for five days in a week.
Listserv: MM private community in which members communicate through email which is divided by subject threads. Also referred to as the Mainlist.
MM: Moderation Management, a peer-support community for people desiring to reduce their drinking.
Moderating: Adhering to a planned reduction of alcohol
Non-alcoholic: Containing no alcohol. Abbrev: NA
Moderation: Drinking within the recommended guidelines of MM.
Onesie: Can refer to drinking only one drink in a day or abstaining for only one day. Also refers to a set of tools that can be applied one day at a time. (See Appendix B).
Red Day: Reference to the Abstar drink counter meaning the participant drank over moderate limits.
Roster: A list of members committing to an action for a day or week.
Sticky: A daily roster members “sign up” for if they intend to abstain from drinking that day.
Surfing: Waiting out the urge to drink.
The “30”: A 30-day period of abstinence.
Trigger: An event or situation that increases the urge to drink.
Trike: Abstaining from alcohol for three days in a week.
WTF: Total loss of control as in, “What the “f…” happened?
